coach Bill Baker's game plan to a T ! Bishop and company kept
high flying Amani Toomer and the explosive Tiki Barber in check all
afternoon. Bishop had 2.5 sacks during the entire 2000 season
and nearly matched his season total in 1 fantastic game. |

2002 TB Bucs 23, 2003 GB Packers 14:
On the
strength of two turnovers '02 Tampa was able to mount an early lead
and put away '03 Green Bay 24-14. The Packers made it close with
hard running by Ahman Green (22-131) and clutch passing by Favre
(12-22-1-145). William Henderson's 2 yard run with 7 minutes left in
the fourth quarter pulled the Packers within a touchdown. The Bucs
defense was too much, however, for the usual fastbreak ' 03 Packers
too handle. Game
MVP Shelton Quarles was all over the field leading the Bucs defense
with thirteen tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. Dexter Jackson
intercepted two passes one for a touchdown. "We call it Buc ball and
it ain't pretty," said Quarles. "They all count the same though.

2004 Cin Bengals 17, 2003 KC Chiefs 14
(ot):
With
a matchup of the 2003 Chiefs vs the 2004 Bengals, the game promised
to be an offensive explosion. Both
teams appeared to have great offenses and marginal defenses.
Shockingly, it wasn't. KC dominated
the time of possession and yardage statistics, but a few 4th down
stops by the Bengals kept the Chiefs shut
out until the 4th quarter. With
Cincy up 14-0 on Palmer 9 yard strike and a Rudi Johnson 2 yard run,
the game seemed in hand. Suddenly, KC struck paydirt. With 7 1/2
minutes to go, Holmes ran one in to cut
the lead in. Bengals being Bengals immediately turned the ball over
and Holmes scored again 2 minutes later.
With the game tied and 4 minutes to go, the Chiefs coach (Anthony
"mop" Barra") chose to onside kick and shocked the Bengals by
recovering it.
It looked like KC might steal the victory, but the Bengal defense
held strong, sending the game to overtime. KC received the ball
first and constructed a punishing 60 yard drive, but the
Anderson couldn't connect on the 56 yard field goal. Team Rudi used
5 straight runs and then Shayne Graham kicked the game winner.
KC's Trent Green passed for 311 yards and Kennison had
an impressive 12 catches for 118 yards, but the MVP
had to go to Rudi Johnson with 28 carries for 152
yards and a TD.

2004 Phi Eagles 27, 2004 NY Jets 23:
In a classic Monday night matchup the 2004 versions of the
Jets and the Eagles battled it out in the final game of the
first round in the Best of 2000-04
tournament. The game was close the whole way through.
Penalties seemed to rule the day by extending many long drives.
It all came down to a a 4th and goal from the 8 for the Jets.
Coach Fortel's Broad Street Crew held firm and advanced to the
2nd round. Coach Weinrib was stunned by the results, but
at least he fared better than Coach Edwards did on his Monday
night game vs Atlants. |
