1992 NE Patriots 14, 1985 Buffalo
Bills 6:
This game had more technical glitches than the Heidi game with both
coaches having different versions of the games and massive run time
errors. Each coach then played the game on their own. One
was played off line and the other online. Both lost their
respective games, but the online game was accepted. The game
itself wasn't that exciting and featured two lethargic teams just
playing it out. The Patriots got a decent performance from NT
Tim Goad (pictured) and his defensive pals and Buffalo went packing. |

1966
NY Giants 14, 1962 Denver Broncos 13:
Denver prevented the NY from ever getting on track on offense.
For the most part stud WR Homer Jones was held in check until he
scored the go ahead TD in the 4th Quarter. Denver rallied back,
but made a critical error in not going for the 2pt conversion for the
tie. Basically this game came down to a missed XP. Jim
Katcavage (pictured) turned back the clock and pretended he was still
surrounded by the likes of Robustelli and Huff as he recorded 5
sacks, 10 tackles and 1 stuff. Homer Jones had a quiet day (for
his standards) even
though he did have both Giant TD's. |

1992
Seattle Seahawks 20, 1994 Houston Oilers 16:
Houston drew first blood and kept Seattle's offense in check most of
the day. Seattle answered back in the form or Cortez Kennedy
who recorded a tournament record 5 sacks + 9 tackles, 1 deflection, 2
hurries and a 1 huge fumble recovery as Houston was driving for the
go ahead score late in the game. The Oilers had 4 turnovers
including 2 in the red zone. Seattle Coach Chris Harris raved
about Kennedy's performance after the game. Chris said,
"Kennedy was a monster ! He was all over the place".
Houston wasted a fine rushing performance from Lorenzo White (19-111
& 1TD). Seattle wins this rematch in gut wrenching form and
eliminates Houston. |

1951
NY Yankees 30, 1961 Washington Redskins 14:
Coach Bill Keller was relieved to see his beloved Redskins eliminated
from the tournament. The team's lack of defense made him almost
go crazy & he felt lucky enough to win 1 game and not have to go into
the WORST bracket. Coach Ed Mikhi rode the strong legs of
halfback George Taliaferro (pictured) who posted 153 yards and 1 TD
on only 15 carries. To round off his day Taliaferro caught 4
passes from Bob Celeri for 81 yards.. |

2001 Detroit Lions 30, 1999 Cleveland
Browns 7:
Cleveland's 2-0 roll came to an end as the "little man" James Steward
(pictured) crashed thru the vaunted Brown's defense for 97 yards on
14 carries with almost a 7 yard per carry average. Detroit's
usually pourus defense didn't have much of a test and held Terry
Kirby Cleveland's feature back in check by allowing him only 54
yards. |
|
1962 Minnesota Vikings 29, 1962 LA
Rams 7:
Vikings coach Jeff Abramcyzk expected this to be a tough brutal
contest. He was wrong, but not disappointed. The Vikes
moved the ball steadily behind Sir Francis scrambles and timely
passing. Kicker Jim Christopherson had 5 FG's and 2 XP and
provided most of Minnesota's scoring. |
|
1981 NE Patriots 24, 1991 Indianapolis
Colts 21:
Harold Jackson (pictured) had a All-Pro day catching 8 passes for 121
yards and 2 TD's. Yet it all came down to the left foot of John
Smith with :04 left of the clock for NE to overcome Indy and advance. |
|
2002 Cincinnati Bengals 31, 2000 SD
Chargers 9:
The Charges anemic offense came back to haunt them as the
pre-tournament favorite Bengals got back on track and staved off
elimination. John Kitna (pictured) completed 79% of his passes
(19-24-190-2-0) and Corey Dillon got some key first downs, and ended
SD's tournament hopes. |
|
1981 Baltimore Colts 37, 1980 NO
Saints 31 (ot):
Elimination games are tough and this one was no exception. Both
teams fought hard for their lives. Baltimore, behind Bert Jones
and Curtis Dickey (pictured) had to rally from a 10 point deficit
with less than 3 minutes remaining to force OT. Archie Manning
threw a bad pick in OT and 3 plays later Randy McMillian ran in the
game winner from 15 yards out. |
|
1974 NY Giants 30, 1976 TB Buccaneers
3:
Their first round matchup was a classic game with a great late
comeback and a thrilling OT victory. Unfortunately the second
meeting displayed none of the competitiveness the first game
displayed. From the very beginning the Giants shot out to a
21-0 lead in the first quarter and basically went on cruise control
the rest of the way. Tampa's anemic offense was also heavily
penalized during the contest. Jack Gregory (pictured) let a
stellar Big Blue defense with 2 huge sacks and 5 solo tackles.
CFL cast-off Leon McQuay and Doug Kotar led NY's ground attack. |
|
1971 Buffalo Bills 10, 1969 Pittsburgh
Steelers 3:
In a rematch of a round 1 blowout the Bills avenged their defeat by
winning a close one against the Steelers. O.J. Simpson
(pictured) ran for 59 yards & 1 TD + he caught 4 passes for 94 yards
including a huge 46 yarder from Marlin Briscoe on a WR option play. |
|
1979 SF 49ers 23, 1972 Philadelphia
Eagles 13:
Double threat Paul Hofer (pictured) caught passes and churned out key
ground gains to keep Philly off balanced all day. Steve DeBerg
had his third hot game in a row showing no pressure from the Notre
Dame rookie who was holding the clipboard on the bench. |

TEAM ELIMINATION BRACKET |
|
1996 NY Jets 27, 2001 Carolina
Panthers 17:
The Panthers turned the ball over 4 times and could not stop the Jets
ground attack which featured 175 yards from Adrian Murrell
(pictured). Carolina's loss advances them in the Worst Team
Ever bracket. The Jets let out a sigh of relief knowing they're
not going to have to play anymore. |
|
1988 Dallas Cowboys 34, 1983 Houston
Oilers 27:
Herschel Walker (pictured) carried 20 times for 103 yards (5.3 avg)
and scored a huge TD as Dallas' M*A*S*H unit had just enough to get
by Houston and get out of the worst ever bracket. Rookie Coach
Chris Harris, who in real life is a huge Cowboy fan was seen
breathing a huge sigh of relief ! Houston's Coach Crawford
Davis was seen loading up his 12 gauge and getting ready to spray
anyone wearing light blue and white. |
|
1958 Green Bay Packers 27, 1969
Chicago Bears 14:
Ed Mikhli stepped in and relieve fired coach Greg Marcucci for this
big game vs long time rival Chicago. Mikhli pushed all the
right buttons and watched future HOF'er Ray Nitschke (pictured)
dominate on defense with 9 tackles and 3 stuffs. Chicago coach
Craig Swanson saw his defense waste another brilliant performance by
Gayle Sayers (34-157 rushing, 4-41 receiveing). Green Bay
gracefully bows out of the tournament, while Chicago marching on
towards worst ever destiny. |
|
1979 Detroit Lions 20, 1973 Houston
Oilers 13:
Coach Mark Miller got 2 TD's from WR Freddie Scott (pictured) and his
defense found a way to hold off a 4th quarter rally by Houston.
Houston moves on in this bracket and the Lions thankfully get to
exit. |
